Custom Furniture & Home Goods
Have an idea for something handy? Adorable? Some other adjective? Or perhaps a straight-up noun! Well, if it’s made of wood or plastic, I can probably make it for you. I also have experience with electronics, so I can embed lights, microcontrollers, and entire computers in things if you’d like!
Pictured here are a sampling of things I’ve built: cutting boards, paracord collars, light fixtures (these torches are installed in our bar!), and an outdoor shower (could be shipped as a kit or picked up).
Drop me a line via the contact form, and let’s make that idea a reality! How it works:
We discuss your design. We’ll hop on a Zoom call, suss out the features, style, and materials you’re looking for, and refine the vision through sketches. We can also meet in person if you’re within an hour or so of western Maine! If you’re a little further, we can always meet somewhere in the middle.
I produce an estimate. I’ll do some figuring about how to construct the item, where to source materials from, and what it’ll take to build it. This part can take a few days. This estimate will include an itemized list of materials, labor, shipping, and a 15% mark-up to cover incidentals and unknowns encountered along the way. My pricing is fully transparent, because you deserve to know what you’re paying for!
As custom woodworking projects take time, I may have a backlog of other customers’ projects to get through first, in which case I’ll let you know at this stage where you’d stand in line.
You decide whether to move forward. No rush! Taking on custom projects is a complex and sometimes slow process, and I understand that these things take time. If you decide you’d like to work together, great! I just ask for half the money at this stage to save your spot in line and begin work when ready.
I get to work, keeping you in the loop on my progress and any decision-making that may need to happen. At least once per week, I’ll send status updates with pictures so you can see your idea come to life! If there are any issues that crop up along the way, I won’t stray from our plan without consulting you first.
It’s done! Once I’m reasonably confident about a delivery date, I’ll get in touch to work out delivery details, wrap up the project, and send it off! At this stage, I ask for the second half of the payment before releasing the item.
And that’s it! All I need from you is your ideas, (your money), and your understanding that custom work takes as long as it takes. To paraphrase Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto: A delayed project is eventually good; a rushed project is bad forever.
